Pour les fêtes de fin d’année, nous avons le plaisir de vous présenter un choix d’oeuvres de Adrien Savigny. 

Ses dessins à l’encre bleue et au graphite nous invitent à naviguer entre des îles imaginaires et des météores tombés de nulle part qui tracent de nouvelles cartes, dont les traits aux structures floues encerclent des formes d’une matière très organique.

Au moyen de l’encre, il travaille souvent la répétition d’une forme géométrique simple, le cercle, dont l’accumulation permet l’éclosion d’îles. Quant au graphite, il crée des aplats de tons gris qui construisent des formes minérales flottant aux confins de l’espace.

My approach to drawing is intuitive. Using lines or circles, or by saturating surfaces, I wish to create a space in which full and empty forms meet. I do not seek to represent objects or a particular material. Using fine lines, drawn with ink or grey pencil, I would like to capture the viewer to plunge him or her into contemplating an A4 or large format. 
First of all, the grey pencil: the different tones of this technique, dry and bold, push me to explore all its facets. The geometrical or organic shapes delimiting the textures thereby created stem from my observations of nature or architecture. 
Next, my ink works pursue my initial pencil-based explorations. I use simple elements, which are repeated to interlace diverse forms until an organic material emerges. Variations of blues blend to form a relief. The resulting forms are maps of imaginary islands. Finally, the line drawings in black ink explore the fragility of simple gestures, repeated until they form a basic outline or screen. I live and work in Winterthur, Switzerland.

A holiday is a day set aside by custom or by law on which normal activities, especially business or work including school, are suspended or reduced. Generally, holidays are intended to allow individuals to celebrate or commemorate an event or tradition of cultural or religious significance. Holidays may be designated by governments, religious institutions, or other groups or organizations. The degree to which normal activities are reduced by a holiday may depend on local laws, customs, the type of job held or personal choices.

The concept of holidays often originated in connection with religious observances. The intention of a holiday was typically to allow individuals to tend to religious duties associated with important dates on the calendar. In most modern societies, however, holidays serve as much of a recreational function as any other weekend days or activities.

In many societies there are important distinctions between holidays designated by governments and holidays designated by religious institutions. For example, in many predominantly Christian nations, government-designed holidays may center on Christian holidays, though non-Christians may instead observe religious holidays associated with their faith. In some cases, a holiday may only be nominally observed. For example, many Jews in the Americas and Europe treat the relatively minor Jewish holiday of Hanukkahas a « working holiday », changing very little of their daily routines for this day.

The word holiday has differing connotations in different regions. In the United States the word is used exclusively to refer to the nationally, religiously or culturally observed day(s) of rest or celebration, or the events themselves, whereas in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth nations, the word may refer to the period of time where leave from one’s duties has been agreed, and is used as a synonym to the US preferred vacation. This time is usually set aside for rest, travel or the participation in recreational activities, with entire industries targeted to coincide or enhance these experiences. The days of leave may not coincide with any specific customs or laws. Employers and educational institutes may designate ‘holidays’ themselves which may or may not overlap nationally or culturally relevant dates, which again comes under this connotation, but it is the first implication detailed that this article is concerned with.

« Heavy Satin II » est une version revisitée et miniature de « Heavy Satin », une exposition signée par les curatrices Arianna Gellini et Linda Jensen présentée dans leur espace d’exposition Last Tango à Zurich au printemps 2020, avec des œuvres de Lisa Biedlingmaier, Roman Gysin et Manon Wertenbroek. « Heavy Satin II » adresse et remet en question les distinctions opérées entre des systèmes tels que décoration vs Beaux-Arts, bon goût vs vulgarité, distance vs proximité, clinique vs l’émotionnel. Artisanat et soin performés par la main sont perceptibles dans les sculptures et les installations de l’exposition, où les surfaces tactiles des pièces sont matérialisées par des textures telles que le satin, la corde, la toile, le métal et le cuir. « Heavy Satin II » teste des stratégies escapistes à partir desquelles nous avons accès au corps sculptural et ses connexions au fétiche, à la vulnérabilité, au soin, qu’il soit apporté aux autres ou à soi-même, et ceci à travers l’élégance d’objets qui pourrait presque se suffire à elle-même. Le titre tente de conjurer les pensées d’un poids imminent, suggérant avec subtilité l’agression et le machisme du Heavy Metal, tout en évoquant la sensualité voluptueuse et féminine du satin.

« Heavy Satin II » est présenté à TOPIC, Genève, un espace ouvert par le biais d’une baie vitrée sur la rue. C’est précisément grâce à cette surface transparente que « Heavy Satin II » peut avoir lieu, pendant un semi-confinement, un état de nécessité où les lieux d’exposition doivent rester fermés, tel que déclaré par les autorités genevoises, des mesures en vigueur du 2 novembre au 29 novembre 2020 pour lutter contre le Covid-19. Ainsi « Heavy Satin II » est présenté dans ce qui devient une vitrine, à la fois fermée, mais bien visible pour le public depuis l’extérieur. L’exposition et la spécificité de TOPIC explorent une dynamique entre des vues distanciées et proches, le désir de toucher et la capacité d’analyse autoréflexive de l’art, alors que certains des travaux présentés évoquent le décor de conte de fée, des contextes fragiles et des objets porteurs d’énergie.

Engagée dans une pratique d’atelier de manière intimiste, Claire Mayet aborde le détournement d’objets et de situations afin de créer des scénographies et des sculptures absurdes, poétiques et burlesques. À l’aide de matériaux variés, de techniques de bricolage, voire de hobby, ou de moyens beaucoup plus pointus, elle manipule le quotidien avec un sens de l’amusement spontané. Fascinée par les outils, les gestes et les savoir-faire, elle a développé une sorte de « savoir-faire soi-même » qu’elle aime appeler « auto-création ».

Alexander Churchill is an American artist born in San Diego California and raised in rural Vermont. He currently works as a visual artist in Connecticut and exhibits his work throughout the country. His paintings are an absurdist examination of his own ignorances, vulnerabilities and privileges and their upward scalability to concentric circles of identity that he occupies. Culture, race, heritage, place, purpose and societal participation come into play when looking at the experiential niche he occupies.

My name is Charlie, Paris based graphic & interactive designer. 

I’ve studied graphic design through different schools. My apprenticeship begins with a two years print focused graphic design diploma. Then I was admitted to Estienne school which led me to motion and interactive design. To complete my studies I attended 3 years at Gobelins school master’s degree of arts in interactive design. At the same time I followed a type design course. 

I work as a freelance designer from my apartment/office/workshop in Paris. I enjoy working on multiple supports, from brand identity, motion design, posters, typography to websites and applications with the same strong graphics approach using thick typefaces and colorful visuals. 

I work surrounded by graphic books, typography and old collected objects that inspire me in my daily work. I enjoy tangible tools and wires everywhere. Most of the time I draw my inspiration by digging in old stuff, magazines, video games, stickers and signage. I am fascinated by old typefaces. 

I work and experiment a lot as long I find pleasure in it, the most important is to feel free to make strong designs. Being bold.
