OCULUS MIRABILIS II
2025
In the Plaster Cast Workshop of the GrandPalaisRmnPhilippe Cramer is delighted to introduce OCULUS MIRABILIS II, an illuminated sculpture that blends art and craft with a dreamlike quality.

This new variation of OCULUS MIRABILIS I (2021) is co-edited with La Maison using the expertise of the best craftswomen and craftsmen of the Plaster Cast Workshop of the GrandPalaisRmn, a historic workshop originating from the Ateliers du Louvre in Paris.

Designed around the circadian rhythm, a 24-hour cycle, this chrono-chromatic piece changes colors throughout the day. Inspired by the Ancient Egyptian belief that the sun dies at dusk and is reborn at dawn, OCULUS MIRABILIS II evokes the eternal cycle of the Ouroboros, returning perpetually to its starting point after each complete cycle.

OCULUS means ‘eye’, and MIRABILIS, means ‘amazing, wondrous, and remarkable’ in Latin. This artwork intrigues and captivates with its organic, natural rhythm. As it follows its never-ending cycle, the light emitted from the work transforms from gentle and diffuse, to vibrant and intense. Its colors express universal human emotions like joy, rage and bliss.

Handmade, the ring itself is created from delicately patinated fine plaster, emphasizing the subtlety of the work which comes to life when it is switched on. The matt background is transformed as the light itself takes on an almost tangible quality, with each new color delivering a new sensory dimension.
Blending craft and technology, each edition features its own unique chromatic composition.

Every two years, Révélations brings together professionals from the art market and admirers of fine craft around exceptional new work.

The seventh edition of the biennial will take place at the Grand Palais from May 21 to 25, 2025.

This year, Emmanuel Levet Stenne and Philippe Cramer will present their new work on the booth of The Art Workshops of the GrandPalaisRmn: a luminous sculpture, a table, and consoles produced by the artisans of The Art Workshops in the plaster tradition. Emmanuel Levet Stenne staged this collaboration to coordinate his furniture with Philippe Cramer’s artwork.

The “Oculus Mirabilis II”, incorporates a light source which changes color continuously. Produced in plaster, it is presented in elegant alcoves in staff designed by Emmanuel Levet Stenne and produced for this exhibition by The Plaster Cast Workshop. Grand Palais
